World metal market is favorable as indicated by rising prices and tight supply-demand balance. This provides business opportunity for existing as well as future metal producers in Indonesia. Indonesia has rich metal mineral deposits, particularly in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa tenggara and Papua. 

Copper mining
Copper mining depends on the activities of two companies, i.e. PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara. In the last 5 years their financial performances were both encouraging, but their copper production grew only very slowly
